Pier Mark: Harwich Stone Pier

Harwich Stone PierIn winter, whiting, dab, flounder and pouting are caught off the tip of the pier.
A spring run of more codling and the other winter species will keep you interested until the eels arrive in May.
June brings bass and sole until september, when it is rare to find bass in numbers and the sole have all but disappeared.
From September, whiting provide sport until the codling arrive in November.

Best baits include lugworm, ragworm, mackerel (be aware of crabs), sandeel, mussel and crab.

I find that in summer, a ragworm tipped with mussel is the best bait due to the large mussel beds in the harbour.
For winter fishing, small mackerel strips seem to produce well.

A sign says: FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY PLEASE KEEP OFF THE BREAKWATER
Ignore this sign because, if you are sensible, there is room to fish without falling in.
